The best head phones Amp for under $100.00 : FiiO E7 USB DAC and Portable Headphone Amplifier (Black)

[Just out of the box...] The touch & feel and conclude of the stock is solid and I love the fact that fiio thinks of everything providing you with a screen protector and silicon glove jacket etc. Good study sheet.

During the first 20hrs of burn, I could not remarked any revising in sound capability on my K702 amped by fiiO E7 and driven from iPod superior - if anything, I idea there was a puny drop in sound clarity and separation. I was already very happy with the K702 unamped as the signature remarkable 95% of my music repertoire which comprised largely accoustic, tenors, mid vocals, etc.

What the E7 did however was to raise maximum volume by 10% which was irrelevant for me as I had found maximum volume driven from the iPod quite enough for my K702. [Max iPod Volume = 53/60 E7 Volume) Ditto the iPhone 3Gs. Setting the Eq Bass boost to +1, also improved bass presence in rock music eg U2, BonJovi & Black Eyed Peas. It afforded elegant ambient bass, adapting the sound signature of the K702 for listening to genres with more bass (but not heavy metal) Happier now ...

However, whilst there is a plus(+) I also found a minus (-)...after jiggling the Lod jack (1/8") several times in and out of the E7 Line In Receptor (bottom right), I suddenly found that connection was compromised and needed to be tweaked each time for optimum sound or it toggles in the middle of stereo and a hollow distant mono sound with parts missing. Does anything else have the same issue. I am a very rigorous person btw. A puny disappointed in that inspecting its $99 and not $59. - **Update Nov 19 Aest: The culprit appears to be the Lod L3 cable with shonky wires, as the E9 manifested the same poor connection using the same L3 cable.**

Apart from that my compliments to the produce team - you've done well. Looks great. Feels great. Bass is enriched without needing a pair of Denon Ahd2000/5000/7000. But output team please tighten your Line out jack receptor.

[K702 at 30hrs plus of burn] Following guidance & having left my hp on iPod via E7 (stationery) most of yesterday & today, I am beginning to hear a puny revising in the amped version which wasn't there before. I hope I'm not one of those who are imagining a diff to console myself. No I think I get it...what was previously a drop in clarity has now become "Smoother" richer sound via the E7. However, I still haven't resolved the connectivity issue but am suspecting it could be a combo of a faulty L3 wire and loose Line in port. Tbc.

K271Mkii fairs well/better as a standalone with the iPod. E7 distorts it a little.

Micca's products and packaging were impeccable.

Works wonders with Bass Shakers : Dayton Audio SA240-B 240W Subwoofer Amplifier with Boost

Connections: Though I could use car audio speakers as well, I select not to as I am using a low level Rca input from my audio boombox. Basically what I am doing is splitting an audio signal. The first part is going to a pair of self-amplified Radioshack speakers, which don't sound too bad if I might add. The second part is going straight into the Amp via gold-plated Rca wires.

I then have the subs obvious and negative wires related to the obvious and negative sub driver wiring arrival out the back of the sub plate amp. Its pretty much that straightforward to connect this amp to a sub, because all the amp is doing is taking a stereo signal and converting it to mono, which is optimal for subs, and then its amplifying it.

Controls: What you have here are two knobs, one is the sub gain, and the other is the low-pass cross-over. There is also a phase reversal switch, which can be used if you have your subs wiring reversed. The sub gain is basically the sub volume very simple, the higher you turn up the gain, the more base you get from your sub. The cross-over knob is used to adjust the frequency of the base.

The lower you bring the frequency, the lower the base is. For example, while watching movies, you might like the low and deep base produced in subs from explosions and whatnot. The higher you bring the frequency, the higher the base and more punchy the base is, which is best suited for music. The bottom the cross-over knob can go is 40-Hz and the highest is 180Hz. A good range to use for subs is 40-Hz to 80-Hz. Anything higher would be best suited for mids and tweets.

Experience: My experience with this Amp has been Sweet! Seriously, don't look at the 240-Watts Rms and think its wimpy. When my Dayton Amp is just putting 100-Watts into my Kicker Comp 15", its pounding the heck out of you. If I turn up the gain to put 200-Watts into my 15" and have the cross-over at 40Hz, it will nothing else but shake things off the walls and if your close adequate to the sub, it will vibrate the diaphragm in your body! Lol

However, just as I said before, I am using my sub for music reproduction, and not for explosions from movies, so I find that 40-Hz is too low. To make the sound more punchy, as it should be for rock, rap, country, I brought the frequency up to 60-Hz and that seems to be good. At one point I got the sub going so loud that my neighbor from 1/4 mile away, came over to see what all the noise was about. So yeah, I'd say this Dayton Amp nothing else but woops that lama's bottom. Lol

Since this is a ability Amp, I find that the sound ability to be pretty accurate. What I mean by this is with lower ability Amp's, you can run into sound distortion which can ruin your music listening experience and maybe overheat the driver coil. But the Dayton seems to reproduce the sound well, so I have no complaints. Another way to tell if you have a ability amp or not is to open it up. If the circuit board is pretty bare, it's a Pos, if the circuit board is full of amplifiers, filters, and capacitors, its most likely a ability amp. High end amps won't even use wires inside to distribute the power, you will find aluminum, copper, or gold plated power bars, but those kind of Amp's are super expensive!

Conclusion: When it comes right down to it, I have to say that this is the best equilibrium between ability and affordability that you can get in a Amp. While this kind of Amp is not designed for use in cars, it will furnish just as much base power as the ones used in cars. And I also find that because of the heatsinks, the Amp never gets super hot, just warm. I nothing else but like Dayton Amps and I have had no qoute with mine, best bang for buck. And I give this a 5 out of 5!
